Ahmedabad Police Raid Uncovers Illegal Call Centre and Drug Stash
In a significant late-night operation, the Satellite police in Ahmedabad made a startling discovery beyond the expected illegal call centre equipment. The raid, conducted near Prernatirth Derasar in the Satellite area, led to the arrest of four young individuals and the seizure of contraband substances and vehicles.
Details of the Police Operation
The action unfolded on February 26, following a tip-off received during a routine combing patrol. Police Sub-Inspector Y S Chudasama, who later filed the official complaint, stated that specific information pointed to Kunal Desai operating an illegal call centre from a residence in Shubhdarshan Society.
Upon entering a 12x10 room on the premises around 9:45 AM, officers encountered four men equipped with laptops and headphones. A thorough search of the room revealed a black-and-red bag containing multiple small zipper pouches filled with a greenish plant substance, suspected to be hybrid ganja. Additionally, an electronic weighing scale and Rs 28,000 in cash were confiscated during the operation.
Identification of the Accused and Seized Items
The four individuals taken into custody were identified as Kunal Desai, 25, a resident of Shubhdarshan Apartments in Satellite; Deep Jadav, 23, from Shela; Harshil Dawda, 19, currently staying at a guesthouse in Anandnagar; and Kunal Mistry, 21, a resident of Anandnagar. In compliance with the NDPS Act, two government officials, Kalpesh Prajapati and Vaibhav Sagar, were summoned as panch witnesses early on February 27.
A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team conducted preliminary tests, confirming the substance as ganja. Police reported the recovery of 77 small and two large zipped pouches, with the total net weight of the contraband measured at 126.840 grams. Valued at Rs 3,500 per gram, the estimated worth of the ganja is Rs 4,43,940.
Additional Seizures and Legal Actions
Officers also impounded a car and two scooters believed to be used for delivering the contraband. The combined value of the seized property, including the vehicles, is estimated at Rs 12.19 lakh. An offence has been registered under the NDPS Act, and a separate complaint has been filed regarding the alleged illegal call centre operations.
Further investigation is currently underway to trace the supply chain and identify the customer base involved in these illicit activities. This raid highlights the ongoing efforts by Ahmedabad police to combat organized crime in the region.
