Alwar gang rape: Main accused arrested, two absconding

Police in Rajasthan's Alwar district have arrested the main accused, identified as Rahul Saini, in connection with the abduction and gang rape of a 15-year-old schoolgirl. The incident took place in the Raini area, while the victim was on her way to a government school. According to officials, two other suspects, including Saini's cousin, remain at large.

Details of the Crime

The Class 11 student was abducted in an SUV on Thursday morning. She was allegedly assaulted by three youths and later dropped near the abduction site around 1 am on Friday. Police said that villagers managed to catch the main accused when the suspects tried to flee after abandoning the girl on the roadside. The other two accused escaped during the commotion.

An angry mob later set the SUV on fire. Police seized the charred vehicle from the scene for forensic examination.

Victim's Family Files Complaint

The girl's brother lodged a complaint on Friday, naming two of the three accused in the First Information Report (FIR). Police confirmed that the main accused lived approximately two kilometers from the crime scene and had allegedly been stalking and harassing the student for several days.

According to Alwar Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Priyanka Raghuvanshi, Saini followed the girl on Wednesday as well but turned back because other village children were accompanying her. On Thursday, the accused allegedly forced her into the vehicle while other children from the village were walking about 200 meters ahead. The girl's cries alerted other students, who informed villagers, bringing the incident to light.

Investigation and Political Reactions

Villagers have alleged that the accused may be the ringleader of a blackmailing gang, a claim police are examining as part of the investigation. ASP Raghuvanshi said that no nude videos were found on the accused's mobile phone, but one nude photograph of a minor was recovered. The mobile data has been taken into record, and further investigation is underway to trace the absconding accused and examine possible links to blackmail.

The case has triggered political reactions. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot alleged on social media platform X that the incident reflected a failure of law and order under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state.
