A statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was vandalised in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district, triggering tension in the area. The incident occurred late on Tuesday night when unidentified miscreants damaged the statue located in the city's Kotwali area. Upon receiving information, local police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.
Police Deployment and Investigation
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. Senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police, visited the site and assured swift action against the culprits. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are scanning CCTV footage to identify the accused.
Political Reactions
The incident has drawn sharp condemnation from various political parties. Leaders from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and other Dalit organisations have demanded strict action against the perpetrators. They have also urged the government to ensure the safety of Ambedkar statues across the state.
