A tragic incident in Meerut has brought the issue of stray dog attacks back into focus. A seven-year-old boy named Shivam died after being attacked by a pack of over 10 stray dogs in Kundo Ki Mandiyan village, located in the Rampur district. The attack occurred on Wednesday evening while the child was accompanying his mother to a farm.
According to villagers, the dogs attacked Shivam suddenly, and his mother screamed for help. Nearby farmers rushed to the scene with sticks to drive the animals away. The boy was critically injured and was first taken to a local hospital, then transferred to a medical facility in Moradabad, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Community demands action
Local residents expressed their anger and grief, stating that they have repeatedly urged the district administration to implement long-term measures to prevent such attacks. They emphasized that immediate steps are necessary to ensure the safety of children and vulnerable individuals in the area.
History of attacks in Rampur
This incident is not isolated. Rampur has witnessed several fatal dog attacks in recent years. On June 21, 2023, a pack of dogs attacked two children in Milak Bichola village, killing one and injuring the other. In 2025, a four-year-old boy was mauled to death, and three other children were killed in separate attacks that same year. Most recently, on May 24, a six-year-old boy was critically injured in Gangapur village after being attacked by six strays.
Authorities have been urged to take concrete action, including sterilization and vaccination drives, to control the stray dog population and prevent further tragedies.
