A wedding celebration in Mirthivalasa village, located in the Santhakaviti mandal of Vizianagaram district, took a tragic turn on Friday when the bridegroom's elder brother died due to electrocution. The deceased has been identified as Ponnada Satish, a 32-year-old software professional.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Friday morning when Satish went to the terrace of his house to dry clothes. While doing so, he accidentally came into contact with an electric cable that was part of the decorative lighting set up for his younger brother's wedding. The shock rendered him unconscious immediately.
Family members and relatives who discovered Satish lying on the terrace rushed him to a hospital in Srikakulam town. However, doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival. The tragic incident cast a pall of gloom over the wedding preparations.
Satish, a software professional based in Hyderabad, had been married to Mounika for about nine months. The couple had arrived in their hometown of Mirthivalasa around ten days ago to assist with the arrangements for the wedding of Satish's younger brother, Deepak Kumar. The wedding was scheduled to take place on Friday night.
The atmosphere at the wedding venue, which was earlier filled with joy and excitement, turned into one of deep grief and shock. Family members and relatives were left inconsolable. The incident has raised serious concerns about safety precautions during marriage functions, particularly regarding the use of electrical decorations.
Sub-Inspector of Police Gopala Rao has registered a case and, following the post-mortem procedure, handed over the body to the family members for the last rites. The police are investigating the exact cause of the accident and whether any negligence was involved.
