Security forces apprehended a woman suspected to be a Chinese national on Friday for attempting to enter India illegally via the porous border with Nepal in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district. The incident has raised fresh concerns about border security and unauthorized crossings.
Interception During Routine Check
The alert personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), the force guarding the Indo-Nepal frontier, spotted the woman around 1 pm on Friday. She was seen entering Indian territory through a footpath near Bairia Bazaar in the Nautanwa area. Officials stated that she was immediately intercepted during a routine security check.
Upon questioning, it was discovered that the individual did not possess any valid travel documents, including a passport or an Indian visa. This led to her immediate detention by the SSB for further investigation into the motive behind the illegal crossing.
Identity Revealed and Police Handover
The woman was later handed over to the local police, who formally arrested her. Station House Officer (SHO) of Nautanwa, Purushottam Rao, provided initial identification details. "Based on a slip found in her possession, she has been identified as Huajia Jie of China," Rao confirmed.
However, the investigation is facing hurdles. Authorities are yet to ascertain her exact city of origin in China and the precise purpose of her intended visit to India. A significant language barrier has hampered initial interrogations, preventing the collection of specific information from the suspect directly.
