Coimbatore Police Issues Prohibitory Orders Till July 3

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore city police commissioner has issued strict prohibitory orders within the city limits until July 3, invoking sections 41 and 41(A) of the Madras City Police Act, 1888, to maintain law and order and peace.

Restrictions on Public Events

According to an official press release, no public meetings, demonstrations, processions, picketing, fasts, or public events can be held within the Coimbatore city police limits without prior permission from the police department. The use of loudspeakers in any public event during this period is strictly prohibited without advance police authorization.

Reason Behind the Orders

The police department stated that these preventive measures have been implemented to prevent activities that could disrupt normal civilian life, affect smooth traffic flow, or threaten public tranquility. Political parties, social organizations, associations, and individuals planning to hold any event or gathering during this timeframe must approach the police department well in advance to secure the necessary clearance.

The police warned that strict legal action would be initiated against violators under the Madras City Police Act and other applicable legal provisions.

Police Clarification

Asked about the reason for the prohibitory orders now, a police officer said many events were taking place in the city without obtaining permission from police. “As per law, every event, protest, and public gathering should be reported to police beforehand, and permission should be obtained,” he added.
