Two Men Held in Coimbatore for Attempted Murder Following Old Feud
The Ramanathapuram police in Coimbatore made a significant arrest on Monday. They took two men into custody for trying to kill two local youths. This violent act stemmed from a previous enmity between the groups.
Details of the Arrest and Incident
Police identified the arrested individuals as Praveen Kumar, aged 30, and Shanmugam, aged 31. Both men live in Ramanathapuram. According to officers, they attempted to murder Barani Raja, 28, and Kousik, 27, on Sunday. These victims are also residents of the same area.
The conflict began earlier with a drunken brawl near Lakshmi Mills. After that incident, Praveen Kumar developed a strong grudge against Raja and Kousik. On Sunday, the situation escalated dramatically.
Raja and Kousik visited a bakery in Ramanathapuram to purchase a cake for a friend's birthday. When Kumar and Shanmugam spotted them there, they immediately started a quarrel. The argument quickly turned violent.
The accused duo attacked the two youths with a knife. They inflicted injuries on the victims' hands and heads before fleeing the scene. Alert members of the public notified the police, who rushed to the location.
Police Response and Legal Action
Ramanathapuram police officers promptly admitted Raja and Kousik to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for treatment. They registered a formal case under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The specific sections included 296(b), 109(1), 118(1), and 351(3). Following registration, police launched an intensive manhunt to locate Kumar and Shanmugam.
Early on Monday morning, officers spotted the two accused riding a motorcycle near Ramanathapuram. When police attempted to detain them, the duo tried to escape on their bike.
During this evasion attempt, Praveen Kumar fell off the motorcycle. He sustained a fracture to his hand in the fall. Police subsequently arrested both men without further incident.
The arrested individuals were produced before a judicial magistrate. The magistrate remanded them in judicial custody, ensuring they remain detained as the legal process continues.
This case highlights how past conflicts can escalate into serious violence. It also demonstrates the swift response of Coimbatore police in apprehending suspects and providing medical care to victims.
