The court of additional deputy commissioner (judicial), Shillong, East Khasi Hills district, has rejected the bail plea of Raj Kushwaha, a co-accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, on technical grounds.
Defence advocate Phuyosa Yobin stated, "The bail application was rejected on technical grounds and not on the basis of its merit." He added that a fresh application would be moved in court.
Sonam Raghuvanshi, widow of Raja Raghuvanshi and the prime accused in the murder of her husband, secured conditional bail on April 29. The newly married couple was ostensibly on a honeymoon trip to Sohra (Cherrapunjee) when the murder took place.
Raja went missing on May 23 last year, prompting an extensive search operation by the Meghalaya police along with central agencies. The decomposed body of the Indore-based transport businessman was recovered from a deep gorge near a waterfall below the Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang under Sohra Civil Sub Division on June 2, 2025.
Sonam and four others were arrested from different locations in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in June 2025. The case continues to be under investigation, with further legal proceedings expected.
