Delhi Gang Rape Accused Arrested After Months on Run

Nearly two years after a minor boy was subjected to gang sexual assault at gunpoint in southwest Delhi, police have arrested a 30-year-old man who had been evading arrest. The accused, Gulzar, was arrested on Wednesday from Palam Village in connection with a 2024 case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Details of the Incident

Police said the incident took place on October 5, 2024, when the minor victim was allegedly assaulted by four men — Gulzar, Ajay, Neeraj and Kamal. “Gulzar was armed with a pistol and threatened to kill the victim, while the others attacked him with blades, inflicting injuries on his head, stomach, back and private parts. The accused then committed sexual assault while holding the victim at gunpoint. The boy lost consciousness and was later rescued by a local resident and taken to hospital,” a senior police officer said.

Arrest and Investigation

While three accused were arrested during the initial investigation, Gulzar managed to flee and was declared a proclaimed offender by a court in December last year. Acting on a tip-off about his movement in Palam, a crime branch team laid a trap and arrested him after sustained surveillance. During interrogation, he admitted to his role and said he had been frequently changing hideouts to avoid arrest.
