A devastating fire broke out in a locked house in the Arora Rasta locality of Sultanpur Lodhi, reducing household items worth lakhs of rupees to ashes. Fortunately, no one was present at the time, preventing any loss of life, but the family suffered a severe financial blow.
Incident Details
The house belongs to a widow whose husband passed away a few months ago. She had gone to Jalandhar with her children for work, leaving the house locked. Neighbors noticed thick black smoke and flames and immediately alerted the fire brigade.
Firefighting Efforts
Fire brigade teams arrived swiftly but faced challenges due to high boundary walls. Firefighters scaled the walls, broke the locks, and entered to extinguish the fire. After considerable effort, they controlled the blaze and prevented it from spreading to adjacent houses.
The fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit or other unknown reasons. Furniture, clothes, electronic appliances, and stored ration were completely destroyed. Preliminary estimates indicate losses running into several lakhs of rupees.
Community Response
Local residents expressed sympathy, noting the family's prior emotional and financial hardships after the house owner's death. Social workers urged the Chief Minister and district administration to provide immediate compensation and financial assistance to help the widow and her young children rebuild their lives.
