A tragic accident on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway claimed the lives of four family members after an SUV rammed into a reversing car. The incident occurred near Loni in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday evening, according to police officials.
Details of the Collision
The family was traveling in a car when the driver missed the intended exit and attempted to reverse on the expressway. An SUV traveling at high speed rammed into the reversing car, resulting in a severe impact. The collision killed four occupants of the car on the spot, including a child. The SUV driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Victims and Response
The deceased were identified as Rajesh Kumar (35), his wife Meena (30), their son Arjun (8), and Rajesh's mother Sita Devi (60). All were residents of Ghaziabad. Police and emergency services arrived at the scene within minutes. The bodies were sent for post-mortem, and an investigation has been initiated.
Expressway Safety Concerns
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Loni, Dr. Ravi Shankar, "Reversing on expressways is a dangerous violation that often leads to fatal accidents. We urge drivers to plan their routes and avoid such maneuvers." The expressway has witnessed multiple accidents due to similar negligence, prompting authorities to consider additional signage and barriers.
Legal Action
A case has been registered against the deceased driver for reckless driving and causing death by negligence. The SUV driver is being questioned. Police are reviewing CCTV footage to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
