Margao: Public works minister Digambar Kamat issued a stern warning to Margao Municipal Council (MMC) officials on Friday regarding recurring complaints of missing files. He directed them to complete an internal inquiry within 24 hours and lodge a police complaint if any file remained untraced.
Public Interaction Session Highlights File Mismanagement
Kamat was at the MMC hall for a public interaction session attended by municipal administrator Shrinet Kothvale, chief officer Madhu Narvekar, and other officials. Several citizens raised the issue, alleging that files submitted to the municipality went missing and that officials later claimed they could not be located.
“Such practices will not be tolerated at all,” Kamat told reporters after the session. He cautioned officials against making citizens run from pillar to post for routine civic work, stressing that files must be processed promptly and that people should not be forced to make repeated visits for minor tasks.
MLA Links Missing Files to Deliberate Harassment
The Margao MLA said the missing-file issue pointed to deliberate harassment of citizens. “It is evident that people are being needlessly harassed by putting forth some reason or the other,” he said, adding that such complaints must not recur. Citizens also flagged several other civic issues during the interaction.
Later, Kamat visited the South Goa district collectorate, where he interacted with citizens and directed officials to address their grievances in a time-bound manner.
