A local court in Haridwar has sentenced a 32-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and repeatedly raping a 16-year-old girl in February 2022. The judgment was delivered a few days ago, and a copy of the order was made available on Wednesday. Additional District Judge Lakshman Singh of the fast-track court also imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 on the convict.
Incident Details
On February 15, 2022, the Class 10 student left for school from the Kotwali Nagar area but did not return home. Her family later filed a complaint against the accused. Police traced the survivor eight days later from a flat where the man had allegedly kept her after kidnapping her.
Legal Proceedings
Government counsel Aadesh Chauhan told TOI, “The girl’s parents initially filed a missing complaint, but police later found she had been abducted. An FIR was registered under IPC sections 363, 366, and 376, along with the Pocso Act. She was rescued after eight days, and police later filed a chargesheet and produced seven witnesses before the court.”
“If the convict fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional three months of imprisonment,” Chauhan added.
