Haryana Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Mining, Liquor Trade in Aravali
Haryana Steps Up Action Against Organised Crime in Aravali

The Haryana State Enforcement Bureau is launching a major offensive against organised crime in the ecologically sensitive Aravali region. The crackdown will specifically target illegal mining, the illicit liquor trade, and other criminal activities across several districts.

Multi-District Enforcement Drive Announced

Additional Director General of Police (DGP) Navdeep Singh Virk made the announcement on Friday while chairing a state-level review meeting of the bureau in Panchkula. He stated that investigation officers will now share source reports with concerned departments and local police to enable rapid action.

The coordinated effort aims to tackle a spectrum of illegal operations, including:

  • Illegal mining and mineral extraction
  • Manufacture and trade of illicit liquor
  • Unauthorised colony development
  • Theft of electricity and water resources

The focus will be on Aravali districts such as Gurgaon, Narnaul, Rewari, Faridabad, Nuh, Charkhi Dadri, and Bhiwani. Virk emphasised that coordination with district police will be strengthened to ensure effective ground-level action.

Strengthening the Bureau and 2025 Performance Review

Virk outlined plans to bolster the enforcement bureau's capabilities. Performance-based transfers will be implemented, with manpower increased in high-pressure zones and adjusted in areas with lower workload. The bureau will also lend support to emergency services and public order duties.

To improve preparedness for evolving challenges, the bureau will be equipped with anti-riot gear and other resources. Training camps will be organised, considering the changing nature of crime driven by factors like climate change, depletion of natural resources, and a growing cyber footprint.

Reviewing the bureau's work in 2025, Virk revealed significant action in the Gurgaon region alone. Teams inspected 4,539 sites for illegal mineral extraction. The enforcement drive led to:

  • 1,358 vehicles impounded
  • 536 cases registered
  • 626 accused arrested
  • 507 cases disposed of

Furthermore, penalties exceeding Rs 10 crore were imposed, with nearly Rs 4.9 crore successfully recovered.

Zero Tolerance in the National Capital Region

ADGP Virk placed special emphasis on stronger surveillance within the National Capital Region (NCR). He declared that the illegal liquor trade will not be tolerated, signalling a strict stance against bootlegging operations that often thrive in the region's peripheries.

The meeting was also attended by Gurgaon Enforcement Bureau Superintendent of Police (SP) Tahir Hussain, underscoring the district's central role in the upcoming intensified campaign.
