NIA Wanted Accused Held in Nalanda Arms Racket Bust, AK-47 Ammo Seized
Interstate Arms Racket Busted in Nalanda, NIA Wanted Held

In a significant crackdown, the Patna Police have successfully dismantled an interstate arms smuggling network operating in Bihar's Nalanda district. The operation, a coordinated effort by the specialized arms cell and DSP Sheikh Sabir, led to multiple arrests and a substantial seizure of illegal weapons and ammunition.

Major Haul and Key Arrests

The raid was conducted in the area under the Laheri police station. Five individuals were apprehended during the police action. Among those arrested is one accused who is a wanted figure in a separate case currently under investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). This connection has elevated the importance of the bust, suggesting links to broader criminal or terror networks.

The police have identified the main accused as Parwez Alam. He and his four associates are all reported to be residents of the neighboring state of Jharkhand, confirming the interstate nature of the smuggling racket.

Detailed Inventory of Seized Contraband

The seizure from the arrested smugglers is alarming in both its scale and the type of ammunition recovered. The police recovered a cache of weapons and related equipment, including:

  • 153 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, which is the standard caliber used in AK-47 assault rifles.
  • Five country-made pistols.
  • Eleven magazines for firearms.
  • Nine mobile phones, likely used for coordination.
  • Cash amounting to Rs 24,000.
  • An SUV vehicle that was being used for transporting the illegal arms and ammunition.

The recovery of ammunition specifically used in high-caliber weapons like the AK-47 is a particular cause for concern for security agencies.

Ongoing Investigation and Network Tracing

Following the initial breakthrough, the investigation is far from over. Police officials have stated that further investigation is actively underway. The primary focus is to trace and identify the other members of this smuggling network, unravel its supply chain, and understand its distribution channels across state borders.

The arrest of an NIA-wanted individual is expected to provide crucial leads that could aid both state and national agencies in tackling organized crime and terrorism financing. This joint operation marks a critical step in disrupting the flow of illegal arms in the region.
