Jaipur: Police on Friday detained at least six individuals, including some relatives of a 53-year-old woman whose mutilated body was recovered from a well near the Dhund River in Shivdaspura. Investigators are probing the possibility that someone known to her may be involved in the murder.
Victim Missing Since June 11
Beena Devi, a resident of Ballupura village, had been missing since June 11 after leaving her home to purchase medicines. Her body was discovered Thursday morning in a well behind the Hanumanpura Power Grid after villagers alerted police about a foul odor.
Missing Jewellery and Injuries
Family members informed police that her silver anklets, chain, two rings, gold earrings, and a nose pin were missing. Police found deep injury marks on the body, and investigators suspect her legs were severed to remove the anklets.
Case More Complex Than Robbery
However, investigators said the case appears far more complex than a routine robbery-cum-murder. “This does not seem like a usual loot case where a woman is killed for jewellery. She remained missing for eight days before her body was recovered. We are examining the possibility that someone known to her, including a family member or close acquaintance, could be involved,” a senior officer said.
DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Verma stated that they are exploring multiple angles. “Nothing conclusive has emerged so far. We are examining both possibilities — involvement of persons known to the victim as well as the role of unknown offenders who may have targeted her for valuables,” she said.
Police Investigation Ongoing
Police officials noted that, unlike typical murder-for-gain cases, the victim’s body was not found at her residence, and she was untraceable for several days before being killed and dumped. Investigators said several leads have emerged, and questioning of the detained persons is continuing.
