In a significant crackdown on street crime, the Jaipur Police have successfully dismantled a notorious gang specializing in mobile phone snatching. A coordinated operation led to the arrest of six accused individuals, who are believed to be behind a spree of thefts across the Pink City.
Major Haul: 43 Phones and Vehicles Recovered
The police action resulted in the recovery of a substantial cache of stolen property. A total of 43 stolen mobile phones were seized from the possession of the arrested accused. Furthermore, the police confiscated the vehicles used in the crimes, including two high-powered bikes and eight other motorcycles. The gang's modus operandi involved using these fast bikes to swiftly target pedestrians, snatching their phones within seconds before making a quick escape.
Habitual Offenders and City-Wide Crimes
The six individuals taken into custody are described as habitual offenders with prior criminal records registered in both Jaipur city and Jaipur Rural districts. While they are currently linked to at least five formally registered cases, investigators have a strong suspicion regarding their involvement in approximately 25 similar snatching incidents throughout various parts of Jaipur. The operation was a joint effort involving teams from the District Special Team, Shivdaspura police station, Sanganer Sadar police station, and Ashok Nagar police station.
Parallel Drives: Arms Act Arrest and Wider Crackdown
In a related development during the ongoing drive, the District Special Team also conducted a separate operation under the Arms Act in the Mansarovar area. This action led to the recovery of three country-made pistols and the arrest of one accused, identified as Indresh Sain alias Chintu.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma stated that these arrests are part of a special campaign launched in the Jaipur South area to curb the rising incidents of mobile snatching. The initiative aims to tighten the net around repeat offenders. All station house officers were given specific directives to intensify surveillance, conduct targeted operations, and act promptly on intelligence inputs. This campaign is being carried out under the supervision of Additional DCP Lalit Kumar Sharma.
In a broader parallel drive against wanted criminals, launched on the directions of the Police Commissioner, Jaipur Police have arrested 63 accused under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Searches for other wanted individuals are currently ongoing.
The police have indicated that further investigation is underway to fully establish the extent of the snatching gang's criminal activities and to recover more stolen property. This successful operation marks a crucial step in enhancing public safety and security on the streets of Jaipur.
