Mukhiya caught red-handed molesting woman in Deoghar
A 40-year-old panchayat mukhiya in Jharkhand's Deoghar district was arrested for allegedly entering a woman's house and molesting her late Saturday night. The accused, Sagar Mandal, was caught by the victim's family members around 1 am on Sunday.
According to police, Mandal entered the house while the 29-year-old woman was asleep and began molesting her. Her cries for help alerted other family members, who rushed to the spot and found the mukhiya in an objectionable position. The family raised an alarm, drawing villagers to the scene.
Villagers thrash accused before police arrival
Enraged residents allegedly thrashed the accused and tied his hands and legs before informing the local police outpost. Police reached the village, pacified the crowd, and took Mandal into custody. He was later brought to the police station for questioning.
FIR registered, accused remanded to judicial custody
“An FIR was registered based on the statement of the woman, followed by his arrest and remand in judicial custody,” said officer Moti Ram Deogam, adding that further investigation is underway. The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
