Key Suspect in AAP Sarpanch Murder Case Killed in Amritsar Police Encounter
In a dramatic turn of events, Sukhraj Singh, also known as Goonga, the primary suspect in the murder of an AAP sarpanch, was killed during a police encounter in Amritsar on Wednesday. This incident marks the second time a suspect in this high-profile case has met a similar fate.
Details of the Encounter at Vallaha Bypass
The encounter unfolded at the Vallaha Bypass area of Amritsar. According to police reports, a team was transporting Sukhraj Singh to recover evidence related to the murder case. Suddenly, two attackers on a motorcycle ambushed the police vehicle, firing six rounds at them.
During the ensuing chaos, Sukhraj Singh attempted to seize a service weapon from an officer inside the vehicle. A struggle broke out, and shots were fired, resulting in Sukhraj sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
Background of the Sarpanch Murder Case
The murder traces back to January 4, when sarpanch Jarmal Singh was gunned down at a wedding ceremony held at a resort in Amritsar. Police investigations identified Sukhraj Singh and another individual as the perpetrators. The duo had fled to a hideout approximately 1,700 kilometers away in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, before being tracked down.
On January 12, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced the arrest of Sukhraj Singh and six others in connection with the case. The police have since revealed that the murder was ordered by Prabh Dasuwal, a gangster suspected to be residing in Portugal, due to a personal grudge.
Aftermath and Ongoing Investigations
In the aftermath of the encounter, one of the motorcycle-borne attackers was injured and taken into custody by the police. However, the other assailant managed to escape and remains at large. Authorities are actively searching for this individual.
This is not the first such incident in this case. Earlier, on January 6, another suspect named Harnur, alias Noor, was killed in Bhikhiwind under similar circumstances. The repeated encounters have drawn significant attention to the law enforcement actions in Punjab.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar provided these details, emphasizing the challenges faced during the evidence recovery mission. The case continues to unfold as police work to apprehend all involved parties and bring closure to the tragic murder of the AAP sarpanch.
