A court in Guntur has delivered a stern verdict, sentencing a man to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his wife, a case that highlights the grim reality of domestic violence and suspicion-driven crimes.
Court Delivers Justice in 2021 Homicide
The Third Additional Sessions Judge Court in Guntur found Kota Venkata Tirupati Rao, also known as Tirupathaiah, guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for murder. The court not only handed down a life sentence but also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on the convict. The case was originally registered at the Nagarampalem Police Station.
The Tragic Sequence of Events
The incident that led to this fatal conclusion occurred in the early hours of March 26, 2021, around 6.40 am, at Srinivasaraopet in Guntur. The victim, Kota Sirisha (24), had been subjected to harassment by her husband, Kota Venkata Tirupati Rao (31). The accused harboured suspicions about his wife's character after their marriage, which led to persistent conflict.
Seeking a way out of the troubled marriage, Sirisha had approached the court to file for divorce. This legal step, however, allegedly provoked the accused further. Police reports indicate that he threatened to kill her following her divorce petition.
On the fateful morning, the accused went to his wife's mother's house armed with a knife. After Sirisha's mother and sister fled the scene in fear, he attacked Sirisha while she was asleep, stabbing her to death. In a heart-wrenching detail, the couple's young son witnessed the entire incident.
Investigation and Final Judgment
Following the murder, the local police launched an investigation which led to the arrest of the accused. The evidence gathered was presented before the sessions court, leading to the recent conviction.
The judgment underscores the legal system's stance on crimes against women, particularly those stemming from domestic disputes and baseless suspicion. The life imprisonment term serves as a significant ruling in a case that began with marital discord and ended in a preventable tragedy.
This case from Guntur adds to the ongoing discourse about domestic safety and the judicial consequences of extreme violence within households. The court's decision closes a painful chapter for the victim's family, offering a measure of judicial accountability.
