A 35-year-old man was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances inside a car at the Manimajra motor market in Chandigarh on Friday. The police have shifted the body for a postmortem examination and initiated formal inquest proceedings to determine the cause of death.
Discovery of the Body
The deceased has been identified as Sant Lal, a resident of Gazipur in Uttar Pradesh. According to officials, the grim discovery was made around noon on Friday. Motor mechanic Sandeep reported that a Maruti Swift Dzire had been at his repair shop for a few days. When he opened the vehicle to begin work, he found Sant Lal lying unconscious on the back seat.
Sandeep immediately alerted the authorities by calling the police helpline number 112. A PCR team swiftly arrived at the scene and rushed the man to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16. Unfortunately, doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival. No suicide note was recovered from the spot by the investigating officials.
Background and Police Investigation
Initial inquiries by the police revealed that Sant Lal worked at a local dhaba in Manimajra. His uncles, Mukesh and Ramdhar, who were later contacted, informed the police that he was addicted to alcohol. They suggested that excessive drinking might have led to his untimely death.
However, the police have not jumped to conclusions. They have stated clearly that the exact reason behind the death will only be ascertained after receiving the official autopsy report. The procedural steps are being meticulously followed.
Ongoing Legal Proceedings
The Chandigarh Police have registered a case in connection with the incident. The inquest proceedings under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) are currently underway. This process involves a preliminary inquiry to determine whether the death was accidental, suicidal, homicidal, or due to natural causes.
The focus now remains on the findings from the postmortem examination, which will provide crucial medical evidence to help piece together the final moments of Sant Lal's life and bring clarity to this tragic event.
