A 32-year-old man was arrested in Gurugram for allegedly strangling his wife to death after she refused to give him money to buy alcohol. The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday in the Kherki Daula area, police said.
Details of the Incident
The accused, identified as Ravi, a resident of Jharsa village, was arrested on Thursday evening. According to the police, Ravi had been consuming alcohol regularly and often demanded money from his wife, Sunita, for the same. On Wednesday night, he again asked her for money, but she refused, leading to a heated argument.
In a fit of rage, Ravi allegedly strangled Sunita with a dupatta. After committing the crime, he fled the spot. The body was discovered by neighbors on Thursday morning, who informed the police.
Police Action and Arrest
Upon receiving the information, a police team reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. A case was registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code at the Kherki Daula police station. The accused was arrested from a hideout in Jharsa village within hours of the incident.
During interrogation, Ravi confessed to the crime, stating that he was angry after his wife refused to give him money for alcohol. He also revealed that he had been facing financial issues and often vented his frustration on his wife.
Domestic Violence Concerns
The incident has once again brought to light the issue of domestic violence in the region. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, cases of domestic violence have been on the rise in Haryana. Activists have called for stricter implementation of laws and more awareness campaigns to address the issue.
Neighbors described the couple as having frequent fights over Ravi's drinking habit. Sunita, a homemaker, was reportedly living in fear of her husband. The couple had been married for eight years and had two children, who are now under the care of relatives.
Police officials have urged people to report any instances of domestic violence immediately. They also emphasized the importance of counseling for individuals with alcohol addiction to prevent such tragedies.
