A young man who had returned from Hyderabad to visit his cancer-stricken mother was allegedly shot by miscreants in the Kalyanpur area of Kanpur, while his uncle died of a heart attack after seeing him critically injured, police said.
Incident Details
According to the family, Pradeep Singh, a resident of Awas Vikas-3 and employed with a private company in Hyderabad, had returned home on Tuesday to meet his ailing mother. Late that night, he was allegedly called to Gajanan Park by some local youths.
Family members alleged that the accused forced Pradeep to consume alcohol, following which an argument broke out. The dispute escalated into a physical assault, during which he was allegedly beaten with belts and fists. The attackers then allegedly opened fire at him, causing a bullet injury to his stomach. The accused fled the spot after the incident.
Later, his friends rushed the injured Pradeep to a private hospital, from where he was referred to another medical facility for treatment. His condition remains under medical supervision.
Uncle's Death
Meanwhile, Pradeep's uncle, Ramji Singh, reportedly suffered a heart attack after seeing him covered in blood and later died during treatment. Pradeep's brother, Sandeep Singh, alleged that the attack was linked to an old dispute involving the accused and some of Pradeep's friends during Holi celebrations. He claimed Pradeep had testified in that matter and was targeted in retaliation.
Police Action
Based on a complaint lodged by the family, police registered a case against three named accused and launched a search operation. ACP Kalyanpur, Dilip Kumar Singh, said that the injured man is undergoing treatment while police teams have been formed to arrest the accused. Further legal action is underway, he added.
