Clash Erupts Between Nihang Sects at Mohali Gurdwara

A violent altercation broke out between two factions of the Nihang sect at Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan in Sohana, Mohali, on Sunday, leaving one person injured. The incident occurred shortly after a felicitation ceremony, with initial reports indicating that Baba Jasdeep Singh was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. Baba Jasdeep had recently led a Nihang jatha to Uttarakhand to negotiate following the June 16 Karnaprayag clash.

Objectionable Video Sparks Dispute

Sources revealed that the dispute stemmed from an objectionable video allegedly featuring Baba Jasdeep Singh. A senior Tarna Dal functionary, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that the video was circulated among sect leaders, who had promised to question Baba Jasdeep but failed to take action. “As the programme ended, Baba’s supporters manhandled a follower of the opposite sect, one of the complainants in the matter, leaving him injured,” the functionary said.

Injured Supporter Not in Full Sikh Attire

When asked about the injured supporter not being in “sabat soorat” (complete Sikh code of conduct) or wearing Nihang attire, the functionary explained, “He is in the process of adopting Sikhism.” The gurdwara management committee intervened promptly and defused the situation. No official police statement has been issued, as neither side has filed a complaint.
