An old video of Tamil Nadu Minister R.S. Sarathkumar has surfaced online, sparking allegations of drug use. The video, which appears to show the minister in an intoxicated state, has led to a political controversy in the state.

Video Goes Viral

The video, reportedly from a few years ago, shows Sarathkumar speaking in a slurred manner and appearing unsteady. It was widely shared on social media, with critics claiming it indicates drug consumption.

Sarathkumar, who is the Minister for Tourism and Information Technology, dismissed the allegations, stating that the video is from a time when he was unwell due to a medical condition.

DMK Files Complaint

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has filed a complaint with the cyber crime police, alleging that the video is doctored and being circulated with malicious intent. DMK spokesperson said, "This is a clear attempt to defame our minister. We have submitted evidence to the police."

The complaint demands action against those responsible for spreading the video.

Sarathkumar's Response

In a press statement, Sarathkumar said, "I am deeply hurt by these baseless allegations. The video is from a period when I was undergoing treatment for a neurological issue. I have never consumed drugs in my life."

He also challenged his accusers to produce any medical evidence of drug use.

Political Reactions

The opposition AIADMK has demanded a thorough investigation, with senior leader A. Jayaram saying, "The minister's conduct raises serious questions. The government must ensure a probe."

Meanwhile, the BJP has called for Sarathkumar's resignation pending inquiry.

The incident has added to the ongoing political tensions in Tamil Nadu, with the DMK and opposition parties trading barbs.
