Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil Remanded to Jail After Police Custody Ends
Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil faced judicial remand on Thursday. His police custody period concluded, leading to this development in a sexual assault case.
Court Proceedings on a Holiday
Around 1:30 PM, the Special Investigation Team presented Mamkootathil at the residence of Magistrate Anjali Devi. The court was closed for the Pongal holiday. Since the Tiruvalla magistrate was on leave, the Pathanamthitta second class magistrate handled the case.
The magistrate remanded Mamkootathil in custody. He did not grant an extension of police custody. The investigation team informed the court about Mamkootathil's lack of cooperation.
Transfer to Mavelikara Special Jail
After the court proceedings, authorities transferred Mamkootathil to Mavelikara special jail. Heavy security accompanied him during this move. Earlier, he had spoken with his lawyer upon release from court.
Protests and Medical Examination
Earlier in the day, around 11:30 AM, Mamkootathil underwent a medical examination at Pathanamthitta General Hospital. Police brought him from the AR camp for this purpose.
