In a significant crackdown, the Prayagraj police on Sunday busted a sex racket operating from a rented building in the city's Kydganj locality. The authorities detained nine persons on the spot during the raid.
Police Raid Based on Tip-Off
A dedicated team from the Kydganj police station conducted the operation after acting on specific information received from alert locals. The raid targeted a two-storeyed rented house where the illicit activities were reportedly taking place.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Maneesh Shandilya provided details to reporters, confirming the detentions. Five men and four women were taken into custody from the premises. Police investigations revealed that the sex racket had been operational for approximately the past three months.
Details of the Detained Individuals
DCP Shandilya stated that all five men detained are residents of Prayagraj. Among the four women, two are from Prayagraj itself. The remaining two women are residents of Varanasi and West Bengal, indicating the racket's inter-city connections.
House Ownership and Tenant Agreement
A notable detail emerging from the investigation is the ownership of the property. The police confirmed that the two-storeyed house belongs to an IAS official. The official had rented out the property to a man from the Attarsuiya area of the city for the stated purpose of running a coaching centre.
Senior police officials clarified that the house owner had entered into a rental agreement with the tenant in November last year. According to the police, the owner was unaware of the illegal activities being conducted from the premises. The authorities swung into action only after locals grew suspicious of the comings and goings at the house and informed the police, leading to the tip-off and subsequent raid.
Further investigations are currently underway to uncover the full extent of the racket, identify potential clients, and determine if there are any other individuals involved. The police are probing all angles of the case to ensure a thorough legal process.
