Amritsar: Punjab Police have dismantled a cross-border illegal arms smuggling module, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals and the recovery of 11 sophisticated pistols, Amritsar police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar announced on Thursday.
Preliminary Investigation Reveals Foreign Links
Initial investigations indicate that the suspects were in contact with operatives based abroad. The recovered weapons were intended for use in extortion, violent crimes, and other unlawful activities.
Details of Seized Weapons
The seized arsenal includes four .30 bore pistols (made in China), four .30 bore PX5 Storm pistols, one .30 bore Zigana, one 9MM Glock (made in Austria), and one 9MM pistol, along with eight live cartridges.
Identity of the Accused
Police identified the accused as Gulabjit Singh (21), Harpreet Singh (23), Gurpreet Singh (24), Kuljit Singh (39), Shamsher Singh alias Shera (40), Aman Rana alias Chini (20), Sharanjit Singh (29), and Ajay Singh (23).
Method of Smuggling
The police commissioner stated that Gurpreet Singh was in contact with a foreign-based gangster through social media applications. The gangster arranged illegal consignments of weapons using drones in the Attari sector.
Prior Criminal Records
Four of the accused, including Gurpreet Singh, already face charges of murder and attempt to murder, along with FIRs under the Arms Act and NDPS Act.
