Red Fort Blast Accused Yasir Dar Sent to Judicial Custody

A Delhi court on Monday ordered 11 days of judicial custody for Yasir Ahmed Dar, an accused in the high-profile Red Fort blast case. The decision marks the next phase in the legal proceedings against him.

Court Orders Custody Till January 16

Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna passed the order, sending Dar to judicial custody until January 16. The accused was physically produced before the court for the hearing. This development comes after the court had earlier, on December 26, extended his custody with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) by 10 days.

NIA's Allegations and Dar's Arrest

The NIA, which is spearheading the probe, had arrested Yasir Ahmed Dar on December 18. He is noted as the ninth individual to be apprehended in this case. According to the federal agency, Dar is a resident of Jammu and Kashmir and was a close associate of Umar-un-Nabi.

Umar-un-Nabi is identified as the suicide bomber who was driving the explosive-laden vehicle that detonated outside the historic Red Fort on November 10. The NIA's investigation alleges that Dar played a significant and active role in the conspiracy behind the devastating blast.

The Tragic Aftermath and Ongoing Probe

The powerful explosion at the Red Fort resulted in the tragic loss of 15 lives and left numerous others injured. The NIA has stated that Dar was in close contact with other accused persons in the case, including the bomber Umar-un-Nabi and another individual named Mufti Irfan. The agency's probe continues to unravel the network and planning behind the attack.

The move to judicial custody indicates that the NIA's initial period of questioning and evidence gathering from Dar has concluded for now. He will remain in judicial custody, under the court's authority, as the investigation progresses and the case moves forward towards trial.
