Surat Family Suicide Case: Key Accused Arrested in Delhi After Tragic Incident
In a significant development following the shocking mass suicide of a family in Surat, the primary accused has been apprehended in Delhi. Vaibhav Rungta was detained by authorities after police uncovered a three-page suicide note and gathered recorded testimonies linking him to the case.
Tragic Details of the Vesu Locality Incident
The heartbreaking incident involved three members of a family—share trader Balmukund Khetan, his wife Priyanka Khetan, and their nine-year-old daughter Bhavya Khetan—who died by suicide at their apartment in the upscale Vesu locality. The family resided at the Happy Elegance society. Their younger daughter, Pathvi (7), survived the tragedy.
According to police reports, on Tuesday evening, Priyanka contacted her father, Sanjay Agrawal, a textile trader, informing him that Khetan had consumed pesticide. When Agrawal rushed to the apartment, he discovered all four family members unconscious. Neighbors promptly alerted emergency services, and medical teams arrived at the scene.
Investigation and Recovery of Suicide Note
Khetan was declared dead at the site, while Priyanka, Bhavya, and Pathvi were transferred to a private hospital. Tragically, Priyanka and Bhavya later succumbed during treatment. Police recovered a suicide note in which Khetan detailed alleged harassment by Rungta.
The note claimed that Rungta had misused Khetan's credit card to purchase clothes, a mobile phone, and other items, withdrawn cash, and borrowed a two-wheeler that was never returned. When Khetan reportedly demanded repayment and the return of the vehicle, Rungta allegedly responded with threats and harassment.
Legal Action and Ongoing Probe
Based on a complaint filed by Agrawal, Vesu police registered a case of abetment to suicide and criminal intimidation, launching a thorough investigation. During the probe, police also noted that Khetan had mentioned his pet dog in the suicide note, expressing concern for its future and suggesting arrangements for its rehabilitation.
Investigators further learned that Rungta visited the victim's residence after learning about the incident, adding to the evidence against him. The arrest marks a critical step in seeking justice for the bereaved family.
