Trichy Residents Protest Tasmac Outlet Near Schools

Trichy: Residents of Thiruvanaikovil staged a protest on Friday, demanding the closure of a Tasmac outlet located near the number one tollgate. They alleged that the outlet's proximity to schools, government offices, and commercial establishments was causing safety and social problems in the area.

Protest Details

A large number of residents from Alagiri Puram laid siege to the shop, insisting on its immediate removal. They pointed out that the outlet is situated near government girls' and boys' higher secondary schools, the RTO office, and several shops.

Safety and Social Concerns

The protesters highlighted that customers often consume alcohol near the outlet and drive recklessly on the busy road, leading to accidents and endangering pedestrians and students. Women from the area reported that some residents consume liquor frequently, causing domestic disputes.

Official Response

Srirangam police and other officials held talks with the protesters. Excise officials assured the residents that they would examine the possibility of relocating the outlet.
