Trichy sees two chain snatchings, one mobile theft in 24 hours

Trichy witnessed three snatching incidents within a span of 24 hours, including two chain snatchings and one mobile snatching. The first incident occurred in the airport residential area on Tuesday around 8:40 pm. A man approached a house and asked a 27-year-old woman, P Preetha, for drinking water while standing at the doorstep. As Preetha went inside, the man followed her into the house, snatched her one-sovereign gold thaali chain, and fled on his motorcycle. Preetha immediately raised an alarm.

The second incident took place at Sanjeevi Nagar on Wednesday around 7:10 pm. A 60-year-old woman, B Jaya, had bought vegetables from a nearby market and was walking back home when two men on a motorcycle approached her. One of the men got down near her, snatched her four-sovereign gold chain before she could react, and escaped with his accomplice on the motorcycle. Based on complaints, two separate cases were registered on Wednesday at the Airport and Fort police stations.

The mobile snatching incident occurred near Subramaniapuram on Wednesday around 1:30 pm. A 67-year-old resident, S Mudiyappan Baskar, was walking near his house when a man came up from behind and snatched his mobile phone. Mudiyappan reacted quickly and caught hold of the thief. Local residents also joined in to help apprehend the suspect. The suspect was handed over to the police. He was identified as D Kennedy, 47, from J J Nagar. Police recovered the stolen mobile phone and returned it to Mudiyappan. The K K Nagar police registered a case against Kennedy. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
