Two Arrested for Diesel Theft in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Based on a tip-off, Panambur police arrested two persons for allegedly extracting diesel from a tanker at Meenakalya on Thursday. Police said the complainant Harris VM, a food inspector, received information about unauthorized diesel extraction from a tanker near Meenakaliya.

Accordingly, around 8:15 pm, he went to the location with Panambur police personnel and conducted a raid. Tanker driver Dhananjay, 51, and Kushadhara, 42, were allegedly found extracting diesel from the tanker using a plastic pipe and filling it into cans.

Approximately 157 litres of diesel, valued at around Rs 14,000, stored in eight cans, the plastic pipe used for extraction, and the tanker were seized. The accused were found stealing diesel with the intent of illegal gain, thereby violating the Essential Commodities Act.

Additionally, accused Dhananjay committed a breach of trust by stealing diesel from the tanker filled at MRPL, without the knowledge of the owners and the company. Further investigation is underway.
