A dramatic incident unfolded outside the police commissioner's office in Gurgaon on Thursday when a woman allegedly attempted to set herself on fire. Police personnel swiftly intervened, snatching a bottle containing petrol from her hands.
Incident Details
The event occurred at the main gate of the office and was captured on video by the woman's friend. In the footage, the woman approaches the gate and speaks to a police officer stationed there. Shortly after, an argument broke out, leading the officer to notice the bottle in her hand. He quickly took it away to prevent any harm. The woman is then seen breaking down at the gate before leaving the premises.
Police Denial and Background
Police officials denied that any such attempt took place, stating that the situation remained under control. They revealed that the woman had previously signed an affidavit indicating a mutual settlement in a rape case and her intention not to pursue further legal action. The affidavit was signed and attested on April 25.
The incident follows a complaint filed in January by the woman against a man from Panipat, accusing him of having physical relations with her since 2024 under the false promise of marriage. A case was registered at the women's police station in Sector 51.
Woman's Allegations
In a video shared on social media, the woman alleged that the accused had not been arrested for months and that her family faced continuous pressure and threats from him. She stated, "It has been four months, but the accused has not been arrested. They are pressuring and threatening my family. I have no option left except to die. I will end my life in front of the commissioner's office."
Police Response
Police confirmed that multiple teams, including the crime branch, have been deployed to investigate the matter and take further action based on the findings of the registered case at the women's police station.
