Army Jawan Sudhir Narwal Cremated with Full State and Military Honours in Yamunanagar
In a solemn ceremony marked by grief and respect, Army jawan Sudhir Narwal was cremated with full state and military honours on Saturday in his native Sherpur village, located in the Chhachhrauli block of Yamunanagar district, Haryana. Narwal lost his life in a road accident while on duty in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and sacrifice.
Thousands Gather to Pay Last Respects to the Martyr
Thousands of people gathered in Sherpur village to pay their last respects, bidding a tearful farewell to the brave soldier. The mortal remains of Sudhir Narwal reached his ancestral village on Saturday morning, following a delay caused by adverse weather conditions on Friday, which had prevented the Army from transporting the body. As soon as the Army contingent arrived with the tricolour-wrapped coffin, the village was enveloped in profound grief, with scenes of mourning unfolding across the community.
Emotional Farewell and Last Rites
Family members, especially the martyr's mother and wife, broke down inconsolably, struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss. In a poignant moment, Sudhir Narwal's 7-year-old son, Ayansh, performed the last rites, lighting the pyre amid chants and salutes honouring his father's supreme sacrifice. This emotional act left the entire gathering in tears, highlighting the personal tragedy behind the national loss.
Family members shared that Sudhir Narwal had returned from leave only a few months ago and had promised to visit again soon. None could have imagined that this would be his final visit home. His father passed away several years earlier, and he is survived by his mother, wife, and young son, who now face an uncertain future without their beloved.
Government and Political Leaders Express Solidarity
Haryana minister Shyam Singh Rana paid floral tributes and addressed the gathering, stating that no compensation can ever truly make up for the sacrifice of a soldier who lays down his life for the nation. He noted that improved facilities now ensure that the mortal remains of martyrs reach their homes with honour, a significant improvement from earlier times when infrastructure and attention were lacking.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, Minister Rana said the government stands firmly with them in this difficult time. "Sudhir's family is our family. The loss of a father for a 7-year-old child who is yet to understand the ways of the world is immeasurable," he said, praying for strength for the family to overcome the tragedy.
Dignitaries and Leaders Attend the Funeral
Several political leaders, senior officers, and dignitaries were present at the funeral to pay their respects. Among them were former cabinet minister Kanwar Pal, BJP district president Rajesh Sapra, former MLA Arjun Singh, Congress leader Shyam Sundar Batra, ADC Naveen Ahuja, and SDM Chhachhrauli Rohit Kumar. Their presence underscored the collective mourning and respect for Sudhir Narwal's service and sacrifice.
The cremation ceremony served as a stark reminder of the risks faced by soldiers in the line of duty and the profound impact of such losses on families and communities across India.
