BJP Escalates Attack on Congress, Labels AI Summit Protest as Treason

In a sharp escalation of political tensions, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a fierce assault on the Congress party on Saturday, comparing a recent protest at the AI Impact Summit to an act of treason. The BJP asserted that Rahul Gandhi served as the direct inspiration for the youth workers involved in the shirtless demonstration, citing his history of making derogatory remarks about India on international platforms.

Protests and Detentions Outside Congress Headquarters

A significant contingent of BJP workers gathered outside the Congress headquarters in New Delhi to stage a counter-protest. Led by Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and MP Manoj Tiwari, the demonstrators managed to breach two layers of barricades before police intervened. Authorities detained Sachdeva and several other protesters, transporting them to the Tughlaq Road police station. They were released approximately an hour later without further incident.

The controversy stems from a protest on Friday, where a group of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) workers marched around the venue of the AI Impact Summit. They were voicing opposition to the India-US trade agreement framework. As a result of their actions, four individuals were arrested by law enforcement.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju Condemns Protest as "Big Crime"

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly condemned the protest, describing it as a "big crime" and a "big sin" against the nation. He alleged that the Congress party attempted to defame India at a time when the global community was praising the summit, which was organized under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rijiju further claimed that the Congress party's repeated electoral failures have driven it to adopt an "anti-national" stance.

"If Congress had even an ounce of sensitivity towards the country, it would have introspected and apologised. Instead of expressing regret, Congress is justifying the misconduct of its members," Rijiju stated.

BJP Spokesperson Criticizes "Lashkar-e-Rahul"

BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi launched a scathing critique, referring to the protesters as "flag-bearers of Lashkar-e-Rahul." He argued that while Rahul Gandhi has previously made offensive statements about India abroad, his supporters are now actively working to tarnish the country's image in front of foreign guests attending the summit.

BJP Leaders Emphasize National Pride and Innovation

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva emphasized that the AI Impact Summit was not merely a BJP event but a national occasion. He highlighted that the platform was crucial for showcasing India's innovation capabilities, startup ecosystem, and digital revolution. Sachdeva contended that the protest reflected the negative and divisive politics of the Congress party.

MP Manoj Tiwari echoed these sentiments, asserting that the protest had exposed the deep-seated frustration within the Congress ranks due to their ongoing political setbacks.

Congress Response and IYC Statement

As of Saturday, no official response was available from the Congress party regarding the BJP's allegations. However, on Friday, the Indian Youth Congress issued a statement defending their demonstration, claiming it "reflected the anger felt by the country's youth" over various issues, including the trade agreement framework.

The incident has intensified the ongoing political rivalry, with both parties leveraging the event to critique each other's national commitment and political strategies. The BJP's characterization of the protest as treasonous marks a significant hardening of rhetoric in the lead-up to future electoral battles.
