BJP Unveils New UP Office Bearers, OBC-Dalit Push

The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced a new list of office bearers for its Uttar Pradesh unit, appointing 19 state vice-presidents, eight state general secretaries, and 19 state secretaries. The reshuffle, unveiled on 25 June 2026, is seen as a strategic move to enhance the party's appeal among Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Dalit communities while maintaining regional equilibrium.

New Appointments and Caste Calculus

The list includes prominent OBC and Dalit faces, reflecting the party's focus on social engineering ahead of upcoming local body elections and the 2027 state assembly polls. Among the 19 vice-presidents, several are from backward castes, while the general secretaries include a mix of upper castes, OBCs, and Dalits. The party has also ensured representation from all 18 administrative divisions of the state.

According to party insiders, the appointments were made after extensive consultations with district-level leaders and feedback from booth-level workers. The move is aimed at addressing internal dissent and energizing the cadre, especially in regions where the BJP faced setbacks in the 2024 general elections.

Regional Balance and Youth Induction

The new office bearers include leaders from Purvanchal, Bundelkhand, Awadh, and western Uttar Pradesh. The party has also inducted several young faces, with an average age of around 45 years. This generational shift is intended to connect with first-time voters and urban youth.

State BJP president Bhupendra Chaudhary said, "The new team reflects the party's commitment to inclusive growth and development. We have ensured that every section of society gets due representation." He added that the appointments would strengthen the organization at the grassroots level.

Impact on Alliance Politics

The reshuffle comes amid efforts to consolidate the NDA coalition in Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP rules in alliance with the Apna Dal (Sonelal) and Nishad Party. The new office bearers are expected to work closely with alliance partners to expand the social base. Political analysts view the move as a counter to the opposition Samajwadi Party's focus on OBC-Muslim consolidation.

The party has also set up a committee to review the performance of district presidents and mandal-level functionaries, indicating further organizational changes in the coming months.
