The engineering wing of the Chandigarh municipal corporation conducted a special anti-encroachment drive in Hallomajra along the Chandigarh-Zirakpur highway on Wednesday. During the operation, 17 temporary encroachment structures were removed from gram panchayat land, freeing nearly 3.94 acres of government land from illegal occupation.
Municipal commissioner's stance
The municipal commissioner emphasised that protecting public land remains a top priority for the corporation. He issued strict directives to all officers and field staff to maintain continuous vigilance against illegal encroachments and ensure immediate action whenever any unauthorised occupation is detected.
Zero tolerance for negligence
The commissioner categorically stated that no negligence, delay, or laxity on the part of any official would be tolerated in matters related to encroachment control and safeguarding of government land. He further directed all concerned departments to carry out regular inspections and continuous monitoring to prevent any fresh attempts at illegal occupation.
Commitment to planned urban development
Reiterating the civic body's commitment to planned urban development and protection of public assets, the commissioner said strict enforcement measures are being undertaken across the city to maintain civic discipline and ensure proper utilisation of government land for public welfare purposes.
Future drives
The municipal corporation will continue similar anti-encroachment drives in different parts of the city to keep public land free from illegal occupation and strengthen enforcement against unauthorised encroachments.
