Kerala Health Minister Veena George Stands Firm Amid Protests, Alleges Political Motives
Kerala Health Minister Veena George has made a bold declaration, stating that she is not intimidated by protests and will appear without police protection. This statement came after Youth Congress workers gathered at her residence in Angadikkal, Kottayam, to stage a demonstration against her.
Minister's Defiant Response to Demonstrations
In a strong rebuttal, Veena George emphasized her resilience, noting that she does not fear such protests and that workers from the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) would be present to support her. She criticized the opposition, alleging that the protests were orchestrated under the directives of Congress leader V D Satheesan.
Veena George issued a sharp warning, predicting that the people of Kerala will soon place a wreath on the Congress party due to its actions. She argued that the current agitations are irrational, especially during a time of crisis, and will ultimately backfire against the Congress.
Allegations of Election-Driven Chaos
The minister further accused the Congress of creating chaos because they anticipate losing in the upcoming elections. "Congress realized they will lose the elections, which is why they are creating such chaos now," she asserted, linking the protests to political desperation rather than genuine public concern.
Challenge to Journalists and Defense of Health Department
Veena George also challenged journalists to highlight any shortcomings in the health department, specifically referencing an incident where a forceps was left inside a patient's stomach. She defended her department's performance, pointing out that it has undertaken unprecedented developmental activities under the rule of the Left Democratic Front (LDF).
She highlighted the department's achievements, contrasting them with what she described as baseless criticisms from the opposition.
Background of Protests and Security Measures
Earlier, similar protests were held in Pathanamthitta and near her house in Kodumon. Following these events, she attended functions under heavy police cover, underscoring the tense atmosphere. The recent protest was led by Youth Congress district president Vijay Induchoodan, adding to the political friction in the region.
Veena George's statements reflect a deepening political rift in Kerala, with the health minister positioning herself as a steadfast figure unyielding to opposition pressure.
