Manohar Lal Skirts Cabinet Expansion Questions
Union Minister Manohar Lal, who holds the portfolios of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs and serves as the MP from Karnal, declined to engage with speculation about a potential expansion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Union Cabinet. Speaking at the party's district office, Karna Kamal, in Karnal on Saturday, he stated, "I never pay attention to discussions or rumours. Whatever happens comes before everyone. You will know when it happens, and I will know too."
The remarks come amid widespread political chatter regarding a possible reshuffle or expansion of the Union Council of Ministers. Manohar Lal, a former Chief Minister of Haryana, is often mentioned as a key figure in such scenarios, but he refrained from offering any confirmation or denial.
Reaction to Ram Temple Donation Theft
When asked about the alleged theft of donations meant for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Manohar Lal termed the incident "unfortunate." He noted that the Uttar Pradesh Police is investigating the matter. "The matter is being inquired into by the Uttar Pradesh Police, but whatever incident has taken place is unfortunate," he added. The case has drawn significant public attention, with questions about the security and management of religious donations.
Interaction with Party Workers and Local Leaders
Manohar Lal arrived in Karnal by train on Friday night and was welcomed by party workers and leaders, including local MLA Jagmohan Anand, Mayor Renu Bala Gupta, and district president Parveen Lather. During the meeting, Anand briefed the Union Minister about ongoing infrastructure developments at the railway station, including the installation of lifts and escalators. On Saturday, Manohar Lal interacted with party workers at the party's office and later met residents at the PWD Rest House.
Speaking about his visit, Manohar Lal said, "Whenever I come to Karnal, workers and local residents expect to meet me and share their concerns." He emphasized that a specific time had been fixed for such interactions to ensure he could address their issues effectively.
Upcoming BJP Core Group Meeting
Regarding the BJP Core Group meeting scheduled in Chandigarh on Sunday, Manohar Lal confirmed his attendance. "Whenever there is an opportunity to participate in a Core Group meeting, I attend it. India's Solar Energy Achievements and Future Plans
Manohar Lal highlighted India's progress in the renewable energy sector, particularly solar power. He noted that the country was once heavily reliant on thermal power, but the need to reduce pollution prompted the government to promote solar and hydro power projects. "Solar energy has been expanded across the country, and nearly 54 per cent of our installed power capacity now comes from non-fossil fuel sources," he said.
He added that as electricity demand grows, the government is also focusing on energy storage solutions. "Since solar power is available only during the day, we are rapidly developing pump storage and other systems to meet peak-hour demand," he explained.
Rising Power Demand Due to AI, Data Centers, and Nuclear Expansion
When asked about future energy requirements, Manohar Lal said the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, data centers, and nuclear expansion would significantly increase India's power demand. He estimated that an additional 30 gigawatts (GW) of electricity generation capacity would be required. Currently, 9 GW is operational, and 8 GW is in the pipeline. To meet this demand, the government is also focusing on expanding nuclear power, with private players expected to participate in the sector.
India has set a target of achieving 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047, Manohar Lal stated.
