President Droupadi Murmu arrived in her native town, Rairangpur, to a grand welcome on Friday for a two-day visit, even as bad weather disrupted her air travel. With her flight unable to land, Murmu traveled nearly 100 kilometers by road from Kalaikunda in West Bengal to reach Rairangpur.
Inaugurations and Engagements
During her visit, the president inaugurated an AIIMS mega health camp at Rairangpur sub-divisional hospital, along with the Rairangpur police district and a Matrushakti Bhawan, a spiritual and community facility of the Brahma Kumaris. Later, after meeting local dignitaries, she proceeded to her residence at Mahuldiha, where she is scheduled to stay overnight.
Reception and Upcoming Events
Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi received the president on her arrival. On Saturday, Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit her in-laws’ village, Pahadpur, and attend an event marking the completion of two years of the Majhi-led government in Odisha.
“The president’s presence has added to Odia pride and identity,” the CM posted on social media, describing her journey as an inspiration. He said her guidance would strengthen the state’s resolve to build a “prosperous and empowered Odisha.”
