Telangana CM unveils Future City, Musi rejuvenation plans

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday declared that the Congress government will transform Hyderabad’s eastern corridor by developing Bharat Future City and rejuvenating the Musi river, despite attempts by vested interests to stall the projects through litigation in courts and the National Green Tribunal.

He asserted that the government is determined to attract international companies while ensuring ecological balance, making Hyderabad a model city for sustainable growth.

Speaking at Gurramguda after launching the Vanamahotsavam programme, the CM said the Musi rejuvenation project would cover 55 km from Gandipet to Gowrelli, addressing pollution that has long plagued Hyderabad and downstream districts like Nalgonda.

He also announced development initiatives for LB Nagar and surrounding eastern parts of the city, which have suffered from severe pharma-related pollution, including groundwater contamination.

“To avoid Hyderabad becoming another Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru, of the 30,000 acres of Future City, 15,000 acres will be green and forest land, ensuring 60% green cover,” Revanth said, adding that the government would simultaneously attract global firms to set up operations. Taking aim at BRS leaders, he remarked that “those who have no future are the ones talking about scrapping Future City,” accusing them of wanting only pharma companies and pollution.

He also defended HYDRAA, saying it was being wrongly portrayed as a “ghost.” HYDRAA, he stressed, would act only against illegal encroachments on lakes, parks and public spaces, which he warned were a major cause of urban flooding.

The CM highlighted attempts to encroach upon the Gurramguda eco park and convert it into layouts and plots. “The state government fought cases in court, resumed the land and developed the eco park in 424 acres,” he said. He also announced an international fruit market in Koheda, spread over 240 acres at a cost of ₹2,400 crore.
