The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Friday expressed its condolences on the passing of several prominent figures, including Communist Party of India (CPI) veteran R Nallakannu, acclaimed film director Bharathiraja, film producers R B Choudary and K Rajan, and former Assembly secretary C K Ramaswamy.
Resolution of Condolence
A resolution was moved in the House by Speaker J C D Prabhakar, conveying deep sorrow and sympathy to the bereaved families. The resolution highlighted the significant contributions of each individual to Tamil Nadu's social, cultural, and political landscape.
Remembering R Nallakannu
R Nallakannu, a veteran CPI leader and freedom fighter, was remembered for his sacrifices during India's independence struggle. He was imprisoned for his participation in the freedom movement. The resolution praised him as the 'Gandhi of Tamil Nadu,' admired for his simple and honest lifestyle, reminiscent of former minister P Kakkan. Nallakannu dedicated his life to the welfare of farmers, laborers, and marginalized communities. He was honored with the state government's highest civilian award, the Thagaisal Tamizhar Award.
