Lata Devi selected for prestigious leadership cohort

Lata Devi, Pradhan of Baloh gram panchayat in Himachal Pradesh, has been selected for a national leadership training programme organised by the Indian School of Democracy (ISD). The ISD is a nationally recognised non-partisan institute dedicated to strengthening democratic leadership and political participation.

Over 500 applicants, only 53 chosen

Speaking to The Tribune, Lata revealed that nearly 551 women leaders from across the country applied for the programme, but only 53 were selected for the coveted leadership cohort. She added that the ISD brings together emerging political leaders from diverse ideological backgrounds and political parties, including representatives associated with the Congress, BJP and regional political formations.

Programme objectives and curriculum

Lata explained that the objective of the programme is to nurture ethical, constitutional and development-oriented leadership while promoting dialogue across political differences. As part of the intensive leadership journey, participants will gain exposure to parliamentary functioning, democratic institutions, campaign strategy, governance mechanisms and constitutional values. Trainees will also visit Parliament House, observe proceedings and interact with MPs.
