Assam Tightens Security for NEET-UG Re-Exam on June 21

Guwahati: Assam has deployed a multi-layer security framework and imposed restrictions around NEET-UG examination centres ahead of the re-exam scheduled for June 21, in an effort to ensure a fair, transparent and incident-free conduct of the medical entrance test across the state.

The Guwahati police commissionerate has imposed prohibitory restrictions around all 15 examination venues in the city under Section 163 of BNSS, 2023, ahead of Sunday’s re-examination.

Authorities have prohibited the entry of any person, other than candidates and officials engaged in the conduct and monitoring of the NEET examination, within a 100-metre radius of the venues. The restriction will remain in force on the day of the examination.

Only candidates carrying valid admit cards, examination functionaries such as heads of institutions, centre in-charges, supervising officers, invigilators and Grade-III and Grade-IV staff, police personnel deployed on duty, and other duly authorised officials of the NEET exam, district administration or government will be permitted entry into the restricted zone.

According to the order, in the past, authorities have observed attempts to resort to malpractice through mobile internet platforms and social media networks. Officials said such concerns have necessitated enhanced vigilance and stricter perimeter controls around examination centres.

State authorities have simultaneously rolled out an extensive security protocol across Assam. This includes joint inspections of all exam centres by district administrations and police, technical audits of CCTV systems, biometric verification devices and signal jammers, and strict scrutiny of key security infrastructure before the exam.

Women police personnel will be deployed at examination venues in line with guidelines issued by the National Testing Agency. Officials said these measures are aimed at preventing any external interference and ensuring compliance with exam protocols.

District-level control rooms have also been activated for real-time monitoring of exam centres. Security personnel will maintain continuous surveillance of the question-paper strong rooms and storage lockers, which will remain under strict guard until the commencement of the exam.

The NEET-UG re-exam comes amid heightened nationwide concerns over examination integrity following recent controversies. In Assam, authorities have stressed that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure that the exam is conducted in a smooth, fair and malpractice-free environment.

Officials reiterated that the combined efforts of police, district administration and education authorities are focused on ensuring strict compliance with security norms and maintaining public confidence in the examination system.
