The Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) is set to launch a comprehensive pre-monsoon clean-up and beautification drive across Mango starting May 15, responding to persistent complaints from residents about irregular sanitation services.
Zonal Division and Deployment
Under the plan, the Mango area has been divided into three zones, with 30 cleaners deployed in each zone. Zone 1 extends from Kunwar Basti to Tezab Nala, Zone 2 covers Jawaharnagar Deshbandhu Line to Mayank Mrinal Hospital, and Zone 3 stretches from Shantinagar to Kharia Basti.
Key Focus Areas
The initiative will prioritize unclogging, repairing, and streamlining the drainage network to ensure better water flow during the rainy season. Drains and garbage from residential, commercial, and public spaces will be cleared daily. Waste collection services will also be extended to the narrowest lanes in low-lying and densely populated slum pockets, according to MMC deputy mayor Rahul Singh Kashyap.
Night Cleaning for Main Roads
Main roads with heavy traffic will be cleaned at night by three teams. Of these, 30 workers have been assigned to the Dimna Chowk-Mango roundabout stretch, while 20 workers each will handle Old Purulia Road, New Purulia Road, and the Chepa Pool area. A separate team has been earmarked for sanitation work in the Dimna-Mango and Mango Chowk-Payal Cinema market areas.
Street Light Replacement and Repair
MMC will also replace long-defunct 12, 16, and 20-metre street lights with new units. A mechanism is being developed to repair faulty street lights within 24 to 48 hours of receiving a complaint.
MMC's Operational Scale
MMC serves approximately 3.25 lakh residents across 33 wards, manages 52 metric tonnes of waste daily, and operates 26 refuse collection vehicles, over 5,200 LED lights, 400 lamp posts, and 25 high-mast lights.
