Shimla: Traffic on the Dhalli-Sanjauli bypass in Shimla remained disrupted for nearly two hours on Thursday evening after a landslide sent huge rocks, a tree and tonnes of debris onto the road. No loss of life or property was reported.
The incident occurred around 5:15 pm in the Lambeedhar area when a portion of a hillside suddenly collapsed, completely blocking the bypass and forcing authorities to suspend vehicular movement from both directions. The bypass is used by buses travelling from Shimla to upper areas of the district as well as other vehicles.
The public works department deployed two earthmovers (JCBs) to clear the debris, while police diverted traffic through Sanjauli market and other alternative routes.
By 7:15 pm, the road was reopened for one-way traffic, with vehicles from both directions being allowed to pass alternately. Efforts to restore two-way traffic were underway till the filing of this report.
