Punjab SIT Recovers 169 Missing Guru Granth Sahib Saroops Near Banga
169 Missing Guru Granth Sahib Saroops Recovered by SIT

In a significant development, the Punjab Police Special Investigation Team has recovered 169 missing saroops of the Guru Granth Sahib. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made this announcement on Wednesday, just one day before his scheduled hearing before the Akal Takht.

Recovery Near Banga in Nawanshahr

The SIT found these sacred copies from a religious place near Banga in Nawanshahr district. Mann revealed that out of the 169 recovered saroops, only 30 have official records. The remaining 139 saroops lack any formal documentation.

Speaking after paying homage at Gurdwara Sri Tuti Gandi Sahib in Muktsar, Mann emphasized that this recovery represents duty rather than achievement. He stated that following proper maryada, these saroops will be handed over to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee as per directions from the Akal Takht.

Background of the Investigation

This recovery marks a breakthrough in the ongoing probe into 328 missing saroops of the Guru Granth Sahib. The SIT had formally requested records from SGPC offices in both Amritsar and Chandigarh just one day earlier. Akal Takht acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj had previously directed the SGPC to cooperate with the Punjab government on this matter.

Political Announcements at Maghi Rally

Mann made these revelations while addressing a political conference at the Maghi rally. This marked his first appearance at this event in approximately ten years. During his speech, the Chief Minister also announced a new welfare initiative for women in Punjab.

The state government will roll out a Rs 1,000 monthly financial assistance scheme for every woman in Punjab. Mann confirmed this scheme would be included in the upcoming budget, with necessary budgetary provisions already ensured.

Addressing Opposition Criticism

Mann directly responded to opposition criticism regarding unfulfilled promises. He asserted that his government has honored every commitment made to the people of Punjab. The Chief Minister defended his administration's track record, stating that the AAP government remains fully committed to public welfare.

"This government is fully committed to the welfare of all, and every promise made to the people of Punjab will be fulfilled," Mann declared during his rally address.

Political Commentary and Development Updates

Mann took the opportunity to criticize traditional political parties, suggesting they struggle to accept his common family background. He claimed the AAP's broom symbol has effectively cleaned Punjab's political system, causing consternation among established parties.

The Chief Minister also highlighted several development initiatives currently underway in Punjab:

  • Work progressing on over 49,000 kilometers of roads across the state
  • Recruitment of more than 10,000 new police personnel to strengthen law enforcement
  • Opening of public libraries for students throughout Punjab
  • Uninterrupted power supply with 90 percent of households receiving free electricity

Healthcare Initiatives

On the healthcare front, Mann reported substantial progress:

  1. 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics have opened across Punjab, providing free treatment and medicines
  2. The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna will launch soon, offering cashless treatment up to Rs 10 lakh

Mann concluded his address by recalling the historical significance of Muktsar, where Sikh warriors led by Bhai Maha Singh ji made supreme sacrifices. He noted that the Sikh Sangat continues to pay tribute to their martyrdom at this sacred site.
