BJP Tamil Nadu Chief Dismisses Power-Sharing Talks, Focuses on Ousting DMK
BJP Tamil Nadu Chief Dismisses Power-Sharing Talks

BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran made a clear statement on Monday in Madurai. He downplayed the demand for power sharing within the NDA alliance in Tamil Nadu. Nagenthran emphasized that the sole agenda for the NDA is to dislodge the DMK government from power.

No Mirroring of Congress Party

Responding to questions from reporters, Nagenthran addressed whether the BJP would seek a share in power similar to the Congress party. He firmly stated that it is wrong to expect the BJP to mirror the Congress in its actions.

"It is wrong to think that we must do everything the Congress party does," Nagenthran said. "What they are asking for reflects their own political wish."

Clear Objective for NDA

Nagenthran reiterated the NDA's clear objective in Tamil Nadu. "NDA in Tamil Nadu has a clear objective to remove DMK from power," he declared. He added, "We have not spoken about a coalition government."

This statement highlights the BJP's focus on electoral victory rather than pre-election power negotiations.

PM Modi's Campaign Launch Details

Nagenthran also provided updates on the upcoming NDA election campaign launch. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to launch the campaign on January 23. However, the exact location for this meeting remains undecided.

Inspecting Amma Thidal in Madurai, Nagenthran was accompanied by AIADMK leaders R B Udhayakumar and Sellur K Raju. He mentioned that venues in Chennai are also under consideration for the event.

Potential Temple Visit by PM Modi

When asked if Prime Minister Modi would visit the Subramaniya Swamy Temple in Thiruparankundram if the meeting is held in Madurai, Nagenthran responded cautiously. He indicated that the PM might visit depending on his schedule.

This leaves open the possibility of a religious stop during the campaign launch, which could resonate with local voters.

The BJP's stance underscores a strategic shift towards a unified goal of defeating the DMK, setting the stage for a heated electoral battle in Tamil Nadu.
